“Leave a Beautiful Mark!” LMFields

What About AI?

Ok, so most of you already know how I feel about Artificial Intelligence (AI). My feelings haven’t really changed but I did experiment with an AI generator to give you my pros vs cons opinion.

First I’d like to say I really love having a generator to quickly paint my ideas. This is an especially amazing tool for writers! To open your eyes and see your character is beyond words! AI is an exercise in adjectives and fine tuned, detailed directives. AI systems can create rather amazing looking pictures in breathtaking, vivid color.

… great segway to my cons…

Warning! Study your AI generated pictures carefully! Over 75% of the pictures I had AI create had melted, blended, added, tweaked or deleted, unwanted things. Unnatural things you may never notice at first glance because the brain sees what the brain wants to see. What do you see?

For example, most of the photos AI created for me had 3, 6, or 8 finger hands! Tell it to not include extra fingers and it complies by stitching two fingers together, sometimes removing a knuckle in the process!

Imagine bunnies with two tails or three ears, two birds sharing one beak, or a second braided pony tail going to nothing! Some of the pics inserted demonic symbolism! I never asked for that. So I asked for a cross and it gave my character a with an embedded cross in her chest. Wow.

The photos above were created using my directive: “Beautiful woman, long braided hair, blue eyes, brown leather corset with white blouse, holding a bunny with a blue plasma swirled backdrop.” Not too bad but you how many throw aways did I have to go through to get these two pics? Dozens!

The craziest part? I didn’t see any problems at first! Sort of like a where’s Waldo scenario. You know? AI is very good at making the strange, unwanted and distorted things disappear into the dynamic color.

To be sure, AI can never replicate the imperfect beauty humanity creates. So while seeing my ideas come to life helps fuel and inspire my creativity, it will never replace the beautiful marks each and every one of us can make without having to include Artificial Intelligence. ❤️

While other kids played at recess, I was on the bench quietly drawing. Nothing's changed. I'm still creating on this lifetime quest to "Leave a Beautiful Mark"
