Create

ROSE PETAL PAPER โ€“ Grab your Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stains, half a sheet of cover stock, and a Splatter Box (or something comparable). Spray most of the paper with Fired Brick, leaving bare spots for Rusty Hinge and finish with Pumice Stone for darker patches. Repeat as needed, using a craft dryer between layers, until you get the textured, rose petal look you’re going for.

TIPS: You can use other Spray Stain colors like I experimented with when grabbing the Kitsch Flamingo. Other colors may disappear if the paper becomes too saturated. I love my portable Splatter Box but any box or plastic bin (dollar store) with solid, high enough sides with do. I line my box with paper towels to soak up the excess inks.

LEAF PAPER โ€“ You’re going to do the same thing only this time grab the Forest Moss and Crushed Olive Stains. Spray, dry, repeat until you get the mottled, splattered look you want.

TIPS: You can always spray different colors or add Tea Dye to create interest with texture. When drying your paper, it’s easiest to know when it’s done by putting it on a slick surface like glass. As the paper dries, it will slide until it’s flat. There will be a lot of ink soaked into the paper so dry both sides, starting with the ink side up.

DIE CUTS โ€“ Be sure your papers are dry! Use all of the Garden Rose dies, placing the petal pieces on your red paper and the remaining Leaf dies on your green paper. Separate the pieces. For a white with pink trim rose, as shown on the card, cut additional flower petals from white paper.

INK YOUR PIECES โ€“ Use a small blending brush or sponge applicator with Aged Mahogany Distress Ink to darken the petal edges and inside portions. Go very light for your white petal pieces.

Only the top row petals were edged with ink to show the difference.

Repeat the process for the leaves using Forest Moss or any dark color for contrast.

Notice the loose leaves are the only ones edged with Forest Moss and I chose one side to be the darkest.

ARTIST MARKER โ€“ Using the lightest grey from the Altenew Artist Marker set, use the brush nib to feather in details onto the petals. Use black to lightly go over the center piece for the open rose.

TIPS: Use a mechanical pencil to put down fine details and shadows for the light pink rose. Use the marker for the deeper, darker red roses.

Notice the fine details on the petals using a mechanical pencil for the light pink rose and the marker for the red roses.

All Together Now

STACK YOUR PETALS โ€“ Use the keyhole as a line up guide. Start with the first petal (see the embossed number) and put a circle of glue around the keyhole. Line up the keyholes with your second petal layer. Press and hold to set in place. Repeat with another circle of glue and stack the third petal. Follow these guidelines as shown on the packaging for the remaining pieces. Remember you have two different types of roses so keep the correct petals together for each.

DRY FITTING โ€“ Take your completed roses and loose leaves to see where you want your pieces to be on your card. Don’t permanently place anything until you’re happy with how it looks. You have the option to create up to 3 cards depending on how your arrange the roses. I used all three and made only one card but the choice is up to you.

SENTIMENT โ€“ Because your roses are dimensional, it would be best and easiest to stamp your sentiment first. Place your A2 Card Front into a stamping platform. Position where you think you’d like the sentiment to be and add your roses to make sure nothing is overlapping. Once you’re happy, remove everything but the stamp. Capture the stamp with the platform lid, ink the stamp and press to the card front. Repeat if needed to make sure you sentiment is just right.

Grand Finale!

GLUE & TAPE โ€“ Remove your card front from the stamping platform. Use tape to secure your card front to a mat that’s cut 1/8″ smaller than the A2 Card Base. Use tape again on the back of the mat and attach it to your card base. Dry fit your roses and when you’re happy, flip over one rose, apply some foam dots, concentrating on the middle and a few of the largest petals. Flip again and secure the first rose to the card front. Repeat for each rose until all the roses are set in place. Dry fit the leaves then pull each one out, add glue at the end, then put in place and press down.

EMBELLISH โ€“ I love the Altenew Enamel Dots. I grabbed some coordinating hearts from the set and put them just above the sentiment.
